In 4th Grade students often have learning opportunities that require collaboration and communication, which are two very important life skills. These students are working on a Math Interview that has them building relationships and infusing this conversation with math. The questions are fun and make them think about things differently, leading to dialog that is genuinely meaningful and authentic to the content.
Other learning opportunities are more independent. Often, these include moving about the classroom. Math Around the Room is a chance for students to work at their own pace to review or extend content while getting some steps in or even a brain break from their desks. Students are encouraged to use references or resources to problem solve, taking ownership of their learning.
