Platte #1 Exceeding Expectations – Danielle Parker, October 2024

 In a recent presentation given by the Wyoming Chapter of The Reading League, Platte County School District #1 was highlighted, citing an article published through The 74, a nonprofit news organization covering America’s education system. The article, written by Chad Aldeman on September 10, 2024, looked at the correlation between poverty and reading proficiency, putting a spotlight on districts in all 50 states that were outperforming expectations.

 Platte #1, which recently began a literacy initiative training all classroom teachers, K-5, in best practices based on Reading Science, was highlighted as an exceptional district, exceeding their projected reading proficiency by 20%. The article specifically looked at data from 3rd Graders in the 2023-2024 School Year. And while the teachers of Platte #1 are thrilled at the success, they know there is still much work to be done as we continue to strive for reading proficiency of all students!
